Hello everyone! FUTURE TECHNO INDIA Welcomes you to this blog, Thanks for visiting us.

In this blog, We are going to discuss Linux and its advantages in detail. Many questions might be arising in your mind like why we used Linux, what is it needs, is it worth learning, and all.

Here we are going to answer everything in detail.

Do you know Linux is employed in routers, automation controls, smart home technology, televisions automobiles, digital video recorders, computer game consoles, and smartwatches, Linux expanded everywhere the planet and it is the most prominent example of free and open sources software collaboration. The source code may be] modified, used and distributed non-commercially or commercially by anyone under the terms of its respective licenses, ex. GNU (General Public License).

What exactly is Linux?

Future Techno India / linux

Linux is the best known OS and the most used open-source operating system. Its functionality list is same like UNIX.

The kernel is a program which is heart of the Linux OS and it takes care of all the fundamental stuff, like

  1. Memory management: Keep track of memory usage like how much memory is used to store what, and where.
  2. Process management: Determine all the processes which can use the central processing unit (CPU)and their usage duration.
  3. System calls and security: Receive requests for service from the processes.
  4. Device drivers: Act as an interpreter between the processes and hardware.

HISTORY OF LINUX

  • The UNIX operating system was developed and implemented in 1969.
  • Initial release in 1971, UNIX was entirely written in assembly language.
  • In 1973 it was written in “C” language, due to which, UNIX grew rapidly and became widely adopted by academic institutions and businesses in a short frame of time.
  • In 1984 users there was no legal permission to modify UNIX.
  • The GNU (General public license) project started in 1989 later became a free software foundation in the early 1990s, many programs required in an operating system were completed, although many low–level elements like device drivers, daemons, and therefore the kernel, called GNU Hurd, were delayed and incomplete.
  • In 1991, Linus Torvalds began to work on his operating system kernel, which eventually became the Linux kernel.

OPERATING SYSTEM

An OS is software that acts as an interface between the user and hardware components. Every computing system must have a minimum of one OS to run other programs. Every time you switch on your computer to see the screen it’s all because of OS, you can perform different activities like writing, browsing the internet, watching videos on your pc/phone, using MS Office, Notepad and Games and all is possible because of Operating System.

What does Linux include?

Future Techno India / Linux components
  • KERNEL = It is the base component of the OS. Without it, the OS won’t work. It manages the systems resources and communicates with the hardware, liable for processes, memory, and file management.
  • SYSTEM USER SPACE = It is the administration layer for system-level tasks like configuration and software installation. The includes the shell, instruction , daemons, and therefore the processes that run within the background, the desktop environment and therefore the interface the users interact with.
  • APPLICATIONS = A software that lets you perform any specific task. Apps include everything from desktop tools, programming languages to multiuser business suites. Most of the Linux distributions offer a central database to look for and download additional applications. Why is Linux better than other OS (Operating-System)?

Why is Linux better than other OS (Operating-System)?

There are many features of the Linux operating system that demonstrate that it is far better than other operating systems. However, in some perspectives, other operating systems can be more useful than Linux.

ADVANTAGES OF LINUX

Future Techno India / Advantages of Linux

1. It is open-source software that means it is available for free usage, everyone can contribute, modify and enhance the source code.

2. About its security it’s not completely safe, but it’s less vulnerable than other OS. The virus can’t execute until the administrator provides the access password. Linux system doesn’t require any antivirus program.

3. It is light weighted, the memory footprint and disk space are also lower. Its distribution required 128MB of RAM around the same amount for disk space.
